A collaboration between Architects Warren and Mahoney and Chant resulted in this bespoke design for Novotel Hotel Auckland International Airport.
Guests at an upmarket hotel expect a serene environment, where everything is a pleasure to look at and to touch. And nothing invites more of their hands-on attention than the door handles and locks to the suites.
Chant is a leading designer and manufacturer of door hardware crafted in New Zealand. The family company takes pride in its ability to work closely with designers and specifiers to achieve exactly the look and functionality required for a given project.
Managing director Graham Chant says the Novotel fit-out was a good example of the firm's responsive, custom hardware solutions.
"The sleek black powdercoated door handles were the result of a collaboration between the hotel's architect, Jonathan Hewlett of Warren and Mahoney, the New Zealand distributor of VingCard locks, and our design team," he says.
"Hewlett wanted the handle to echo the form of the Novotel's distinctive blade columns, while the lock's vertical fixing screws required a specific technical response. For our part, we had to ensure the faceted, ergonomic handle design worked in terms of casting and mass production – more than 250 sets were supplied by us."
